Making & Meaning:
A ring of upright porcelain scrolls, rolled, scorched, and fused by fire. Their edges are charred, curling like parchment singed by time. Arranged in a circle, they speak without words.
This piece began as paper, then turned to porcelain, fragile, fire-hardened, and ghostlike. The shape came instinctively, but the form brought back a memory: the wave-breaking poles along the coastline of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, where my heritage comes from.
Those wooden markers stand tall in the sand, slowly darkened by salt and time, holding their line against the sea. Like them, this circle is a quiet resistance. A fragile barrier. A rhythm made solid. Not a wall, but a memory ring. A landscape reduced to gesture. Fired to permanence.
