Making & Meaning:
The moment I posted about 1001 Pieces, the project I’ve been thinking about for years, I felt it. That quiet presence at my side. An old friend. Or maybe more like a shadow.
Doubt!
He didn’t waste time. Whispered right into my ear.
“What are you doing?”
“You think you can actually pull this off?”
“You’ll quit, like always.”
I know him well, doubt. We’ve met at the start of almost everything I’ve ever cared about. Sometimes he just passes through. Other times he lingers for days. I used to fight him, argue back, try to shut him out. But this time was different.
This time, I invited him in.
I decided that the first piece of this long journey would be about him, about that feeling, that fear.
So I made something fragile. A paper sculpture. A ghost of a book, partly devoured by moths. As if it had been left behind and forgotten, unread and unloved. Just like Doubt wants this project to be.
But in making it, something shifted. The fear became tangible, and because of that, it lost its hold. This moth-eaten object didn’t mark the end. It became a beginning.
And so I begin. 1001 pieces. 1001 moments of showing up. Tiny stories, one at a time. Let’s see where they lead.
Trivia: The cotton paper is made from a pillowcase I slept on for years.
