Back in the Studio
After a six-month hiatus, I’m finally back in the studio. Not just to work with porcelain, but to return to making in all its forms. Porcelain is a part of it, yes, but my practice has always been a mix of materials, methods, instincts, and experiments. Eclectic by nature, and often a bit unruly. And that’s exactly how I like it.
Still, porcelain has a special kind of gravity. There’s something about its fragility and strength, its purity and resistance, that keeps pulling me in. Lately, I’ve been working with paper porcelain, and it feels like I’m only now starting to understand what it wants from me.
A big part of that shift came from a masterclass I followed by Tinne Debruijne. Her approach, her sensitivity to the material, it reminded me of what it means to feel your way through a process instead of forcing it. I’ve admired her work for years, and doing her course helped reconnect me with my own rhythm. It made me want to make again. Really make.
I can’t wait to share what’s coming out of the kiln, but also what’s coming off the bench, from the laser cutter, 3d printer, the sketchbook, the fragments lying around. There are wins, experiments, mistakes, strange objects with no category, and I want to keep all of it alive.
This is me, starting again. Not from scratch, but from a place that feels more honest.
